Discover the Golden Spike N.H.P. Locomotive Demonstrations in Utah
Located in Promontory, Utah, the Golden Spike N.H.P. Locomotive Demonstrations bring railroad history to life at the site where the First Transcontinental Railroad was completed. This immersive Historic Demonstration & Visitor Tour allows visitors to witness full-scale, operational steam locomotives recreate the iconic 1869 meeting of the rails. Rangers interpret the engineering, labor, and national impact of the railroad while visitors experience sights, sounds, and motion rarely seen outside a museum setting.
Why it’s special: This is one of the only places in the U.S. where historic steam locomotives are fired up and operated daily, reenacting a defining moment in American industrial history on its original ground.
