Discover the Spoetzl Brewery Tour in Texas
Step inside the home of Shiner Beer with a visit to the historic Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner. As Texas’s oldest independent brewery, Spoetzl blends over a century of tradition with modern brewing science to create some of the state’s most iconic beers. Visitors explore active brewhouse areas, fermentation tanks, packaging lines, and the lively tasting room where Shiner’s signature flavors come to life.
Why it’s special: Few breweries in America have preserved their heritage as faithfully as Spoetzl. Touring the facility lets you witness classic brewing techniques, learn about the immigrant roots that shaped the brewery’s legacy, and enjoy exclusive Shiner samples you can’t find anywhere else.
History/Story of Spoetzl Brewery
Founded in 1909 by German and Czech immigrants, Spoetzl Brewery was built to serve the small farming community of Shiner with Old-World-style beer. Brewmaster Kosmos Spoetzl, who took over in 1914, introduced techniques and recipes from Bavaria that still influence Shiner brews today. The brewery survived Prohibition by producing ice and “near beer,” eventually becoming a Texas icon known nationwide for Shiner Bock and a growing portfolio of craft-style beers.
