Discover the Duke Energy World of Energy at Oconee Nuclear Station
Located near Seneca, South Carolina, at the Oconee Nuclear Station, the Duke Energy World of Energy offers visitors an educational experience focused on nuclear power, electricity generation, and energy innovation. This visitor center and guided program provides insight into how one of the largest nuclear power facilities in the Southeast produces reliable, carbon-free electricity for millions of customers.
Why it’s special:
This is not a factory tour—it’s an energy education and infrastructure experience at an active nuclear power plant site. Visitors learn how nuclear reactors generate electricity, explore interactive exhibits, and gain a clearer understanding of nuclear safety, engineering, and environmental impact at a real operating station.
History/Story of the Oconee Nuclear Station
The Oconee Nuclear Station began operations in the early 1970s and remains one of Duke Energy’s most important power-generating facilities. With three nuclear reactors, Oconee plays a key role in supplying electricity across the Carolinas while maintaining strict safety and environmental standards. The World of Energy was created to educate the public about nuclear power and Duke Energy’s role in the evolving energy landscape.
