Discover the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory Tour in Kentucky
Step into the iconic world of America’s favorite baseball bat at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. This immersive experience blends baseball history, hands-on exhibits, and the craft of making wooden bats.
Your visit begins with a short film that transports you to the forests and mills where bat-grade wood is sourced. Then you join a guided bat factory tour, walking through the heart of the manufacturing line. You’ll see logs being turned into baseball bats, mini-bat production, and custom engraving in action. The smell of fresh-cut wood, the sound of shavings, and the rhythm of machines bring the process to life.
Along the way, you’ll explore museum galleries featuring baseball legends, bat vaults, memorabilia, interactive batting cages, and opportunities to hold bats used by legends. At the end of the factory tour, you’ll receive your own free mini-bat souvenir.
Why it’s special:
Louisville Slugger is not just a museum — it’s a working factory where bats are made daily, even when visitors are present. Every tour guarantees you’ll see real bat production. The museum also houses the Bat Vault — thousands of bat models, including ones used by Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Derek Jeter, and many more — plus the “World’s Largest Bat” outside. The blend of live craft, sporting history, and interactive fun makes this a must-see for baseball fans and families alike.
History/Story of Louisville Slugger & Hillerich & Bradsby
The Louisville Slugger legacy begins in 1884, when 17-year-old Bud Hillerich crafted a custom bat for local hitter Pete Browning in his father’s woodshop. Word spread, and soon Hillerich & Bradsby was supplying professional players, eventually becoming the Bat of the Pros.
Over the decades, the company has kept close ties to its roots, maintaining family ownership and cementing Louisville as the home of America’s most famous baseball bat. The museum opened in 1996, bringing bat production back to Louisville and combining factory and museum in one site.
